Street Armor
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 7 October 2026
Street Armor photographs a street-cleaning sign, works out when the next sweep is, and reminds you before it. It does not have accounts, it does not have a server that stores your data, and it does not have advertising or analytics.
The short version
- Your photos stay on your phone. They are never uploaded anywhere.
- Your saved parkings and reminders stay on your phone.
- We do not have a server, an account system, or a database with your data in it.
- We do not use advertising identifiers and we do not track you across apps or websites.
- Your approximate coordinates are sent to a public map service when the app needs to turn them into a street name. That is the only thing that leaves your device, and it is explained below.
What the app stores, and where
| Data | Where it lives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Sign photos | Your device only | Evidence for a ticket appeal, and to re-read the sign later |
| Saved parkings: street, side, schedule, coordinates, timestamp | Your device only | To show the next cleaning and to arm the reminder |
| Reminder preferences | Your device only | To decide when the notification fires |
| Tip history (whether you have tipped, and when the app last asked) | Your device only | So the app asks rarely and stops asking once you have |
Deleting the app deletes all of it. There is no copy anywhere else, which also means there is nothing for us to restore if you delete it by accident.
What leaves your device
To name the street you are parked on, Street Armor sends your approximate coordinates to public map services. It sends coordinates and nothing else: no identifier, no account, no device name, and nothing that says the requests came from the same phone.
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim and Overpass API, to turn coordinates into a street name and to find the nearby streets you can choose from. These are operated by the OpenStreetMap Foundation, under their own privacy policy.
- boston.gov, to read the City of Boston holiday list, so a reminder is not set for a day the sweeper does not come. This request contains no data about you.
The Boston street-cleaning schedule itself ships inside the app. Looking up a schedule requires no network request at all.
Permissions the app asks for
- Camera: to photograph the sign. Nothing is recorded until you press the shutter.
- Location: to identify the street you are on. Asked at the moment you take a photo, not at launch.
- Notifications: to deliver the reminder. Without this the app can still work out the date, but nothing can reach you, and the app says so plainly.
- Photo library: only if you choose to save the evidence photo to your own library, and to read the GPS and compass data your camera wrote into the photo.
- Calendar: only if you tap "Add to calendar". The app writes one event and never reads the rest of your calendar.
- Motion: the compass, to work out which way you were facing when you photographed the sign.
Every one of these can be refused, and the app keeps working with less certainty rather than stopping.
Tips
Street Armor is free and every feature stays unlocked. If you choose to leave a tip, the purchase is handled entirely by Apple's In-App Purchase system on iPhone or Google Play Billing on Android. We never see your payment details. The store tells us only that a purchase completed.
This website
streetarmor.app is a static website. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising. The street search on the home page runs entirely in your browser. Links to the App Store and Google Play carry a campaign tag (for example "web", or "ads-search" if you arrived from one of our ads) so we can count installs by where they came from. The tag says nothing about who you are. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives the standard request your browser makes for them.
Children
Street Armor is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect anything from them. There is no account to create and no profile to build.
Your rights
Because nothing about you is held on our side, there is no data for us to export, correct, or delete on request. Everything the app knows is on your phone, under your control, and goes when the app goes. If you would like to confirm that, or you think something here is wrong, write to us. We would rather hear it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what leaves your device, the date at the top changes and the new version is published here before the change ships.
